The most common complaint of parents who turn to the pediatrician is the high fever of their baby. The medical term for this phenomenon is hyperthermia, and it is not considered a disease, acts as a symptom. The temperature rises in the child if a virus enters the body - he begins to actively fight him, as a result of which the body temperature rises.
Basically, hyperthermia is a consequence of an infectious disease. As soon as the temperature rises, a protein called interferon begins to be produced in the body. That is why pediatricians argue that it is wrong to try to quickly bring the temperature down to the usual level - you need to give the body the opportunity to fight the virus on its own. The critical mark is 38.5. If it appears on a thermometer - it is necessary to bring down the temperature. Otherwise, the child’s body is exposed to negative effects - from intoxication to a violation of the functions of internal organs.
Many parents are wary of modern pharmacological agents due to the large number of side effects. There is a very old, but effective and proven method, thanks to which you can quickly bring down the temperature in the baby - this is grinding with vinegar. It is noteworthy that this technique can be used in conjunction with drug therapy. The best option is to give the child an antipyretic and rub it with vinegar, this will help bring down the temperature.
Let's consider how to rub the crumbs properly so as not to harm them, whether vinegar needs to be bred and to what concentration to do it, as well as other topical issues related to grinding vinegar.
Why does vinegar help with temperature?
To this day, there is debate as to whether vinegar essence is really effective at temperature. Nevertheless, the fact remains - already 10 minutes after rubbing, both in children and in adults the temperature decreases markedly. What is the reason?
Vinegar contains volatile acids - when it comes into contact with the skin, they instantly evaporate, while taking away heat. Thus, the body cools, therefore, and the temperature gradually decreases. To ensure maximum effect, it is important to ventilate the room, the child should not be hot.
In general, doctors of the old school actively recommend this procedure for use due to its high efficiency. Despite the fact that vinegar essence is a toxic substance, if properly diluted, vinegar will not do any harm to the baby. Of course, a child may not like the unpleasant smell of a liquid. Nevertheless, parents should persuade the child to the procedure - after it, he will feel much easier.
Important: It is not advisable to do rubbing if your child's temperature has not reached 38.5. It is important to allow the body to fight viruses, thanks to this, the child will develop immunity.
How to dilute vinegar essence?
Children's skin is very delicate, and acid can easily leave a burn. Therefore, parents must strictly observe all proportions during the preparation of the solution with the addition of vinegar essence. For the baby, it is advisable to use wine, apple or rice vinegar - it is important that it is of natural origin. The proportions are as follows: 40 ml of vinegar must be added to 0.5 liters of water, mix everything thoroughly - after this, you should immediately begin the procedure.
How to wipe?
Naturally, before you start wiping the baby's body with a solution, you need to remove clothes from it. For grinding, you need to use a clean cloth, or a regular cotton swab. Dip it into the solution and proceed to wiping.
If the crumbs are not yet three years old, in this case it is worthwhile to limit yourself only to socks - moisten them in a solution of vinegar and put them on the baby's legs. Parents should be careful, the child needs to be on dry bedding, while his clothes should also be dry - if the baby is sweating very much, everything needs to be changed as often as possible.
If the child has already reached the age of 3, you can begin to wipe and areas of the body. You need to start with the feet and hands. After that, without applying force, you need to completely wipe your legs and arms, while you need to pay special attention to the armpits, bends of the elbows, as well as the knees. It is in these places that the blood arteries are located as close to the surface as possible, so the effect will be achieved faster.
Rubbing should be completed by running a cloth dipped in vinegar, along the neck of the child, along the back. You don’t need to put on the baby right away. The best option is to cover it with a sheet.
When can vinegar not be used?
You do not need to use the method thoughtlessly, as this can lead to undesirable consequences, and sometimes can cause serious harm. That is why, if the conversation is about the baby, - before you start the procedure, you must get a doctor’s consultation and learn about the appropriateness of the procedure.
Rubbing with vinegar can not be used if the crumbs:
- vomiting and convulsions are present;
- the baby’s arms and legs are cold, and the skin is much paler than usual;
- on the skin there are wounds or damage;
- with intolerance to vinegar, or an allergic reaction;
- children who are under the age of 3 do not need to wipe the body with vinegar essence;
The specified concentration rate should not be exceeded, since otherwise the child may have irritation on the skin.
What are the benefits of wiping with vinegar essence?
It is noteworthy that not all doctors recommend vinegar from temperature. In Soviet times, doctors actively recommended this method for use because of its effectiveness, and most importantly, its availability. That is why doctors from the old school still recommend this method. The modern generation of pediatricians claims that rubbing with vinegar is a useless and even dangerous activity. Therefore, the views of doctors differ on this issue.
Nevertheless, several positive aspects of vinegar wiping can be distinguished:
- The body temperature decreases quite quickly - this is important if there is no time to wait until the tablets work. Also, this method will be effective if the child's temperature rises rapidly - vinegar rubbing will quickly reduce it and avoid the negative effects of hyperthermia.
- If the parent is against the use of pharmacological agents, rubbing with the use of vinegar solution will also be a great alternative.
- You can try rubbing with vinegar, if the parents have repeatedly given the baby an antipyretic, while the tablets did not give the desired effect.
But there are also negative sides. Vinegar is a toxic substance that has the ability to penetrate the body through the skin, so parents need to be careful and in no case exceed the dosage shown when diluting vinegar with water - otherwise intoxication can occur that will only aggravate the condition of the child.
Parents should be aware that rubbing only temporarily will ease the condition of the sick baby, and the cause will not be eliminated - in any case, you need a doctor's consultation, as well as proper therapy.
